SPEED & FUNKY

WHO WE ARE:

Speed and Funky is Gujja Ting African Art’s dance crew of four members, which performs and does different types of dance.  They have recently taken up tap and ballet, but mostly do hip-hop, b-boying, Afro House, and African dance.

Speed and Funky perform at battles at the Ugandan National Theater and Breakdance Project Uganda.  They also perform around Kampala at other hip-hop events.

The group recently got the chance to travel to Poland for the Brave Kids festival (http://www.bravekids.eu/) where they had the chance to do many performances in two different cities.  They met other kids from all over the world and taught workshops to the other members of the festivals.

Speed and Funky hopes to bring other children into the group, so that there will always be younger members carrying out the dreams that Speed and Funky has and represent Gujja Ting in other cultures and countries whenever possible.

Talemwa Joel is the director of Speed and Funky, Gujja Ting African Art’s dance crew.  He is 15 years old and has only been dancing for four short years but in those years has learned many different styles of dance and performed multiple places around Kampala and in Poland.  Joel studies multiple types of dance including, tap, ballet, African contemporary, Afro House, traditional African dance, B-boying, and hip-hop.  Joel was one of the founding members of Speed and Funky in 2011 and now has taken over the role of director.
